Accessibility Statement

This statement was last updated on 17 May 2025

We at The Bulldog Brighton are working to make our site www.bulldogbar.co.uk accessible to people with disabilities.

What web accessibility is

Web accessibility means designing and building websites so that everyone — including people with disabilities can use them easily. This includes users with visual, hearing, cognitive, or motor impairments, as well as those using assistive technologies like screen readers or voice navigation. Accessibility is about inclusion and equal access for all.

We support the principles outlined in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, which aim to make websites more perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

Accessibility adjustments on this site

We’ve made several improvements to our website to help users access content more easily:

  • Keyboard navigation: You can use your keyboard to browse most of the site without a mouse.

  • Alt text: Where possible, images include meaningful alt tags to support screen readers.

  • Clear layout: Our site structure uses clear headings and consistent navigation.

  • Mobile-friendly design: The site adjusts to different screen sizes, including mobile and tablet.

  • Colour contrast: We’ve chosen high-contrast text and backgrounds for readability.

We’re a small team, so the site is a work in progress but accessibility is something we take seriously and are committed to improving over time.

Requests, issues, and suggestions

If you’re unable to access part of our website, or if there’s a way we can support you better when visiting us in person, we welcome your feedback.

We can provide:

  • Information in alternative formats (e.g. large print, plain text)

  • Advance support if you’re attending an event

  • Responses to accessibility queries within 5 working days

Let us know how we can help — your comfort and inclusion matter to us.

Accessibility arrangements in the organization [only add if relevant]

As one of Brighton’s oldest LGBTQ+ venues, we’re housed in a historic building that presents some limitations. We are open about these and will always do what we can to support visitors with accessibility needs.

Here’s what you need to know about our venue:

  • Step access: There is a small step to enter the venue.

  • No accessible toilet: Due to the age and layout of the building, we do not currently have disabled toilet facilities.

  • Seating: We have a mix of high stools and lower seating available.

  • Support: Our team is happy to assist however possible  just let us know in advance or ask on arrival.

We are reviewing our space as part of ongoing improvements, but physical access remains a challenge due to the building's structure.
